The old village blacksmith shop where muscular men once labored at the forge – but also the birthplace of a renowned cleric. Such men were unalike in many ways, but they all had something in common: A passionate view of life. The blacksmiths worked the bellows and pounded singing steel amid showers of sparks to create things of lasting beauty and long-term utility – while the abbot was a man of the cloth, committed to a life of religious devotion. The future clergyman – born as Karl Klotz (when taking his vows, he adopted the name “Petrus”) – was intimately familiar with the fires roaring in the forge, but later acquired a reputation as the author of travelogues. He was a seeker, a clergyman who later traveled widely as the Archabbot Petrus Klotz. Here at this historic site, their life-stories crossed. The stolid character of traditional working men is combined here with the freedom of modern times – and defines the style and surroundings of our vacation apartments in lovely Kaltern / Caldaro.
